Ahmedabad: A student of Nirma University in the city has been adjudged as one of the 100 most accomplished engineering students of the world. The selection was carried out by the Student Platform for Engineering Education Development (SPEED).
The final year Nirma University student, Akash Domadiya will now get to attend the 6th Global Student Forum (GSF) on engineering education in Budapest, Hungary from October 9 to 15. Talking about the selection Domadiya said, "I am looking forward to participating in the forum at Budapest and am looking for sponsorships for the trip."
The GSF is co-organised by SPEED and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The forum will discuss the equal representation of engineers around the globe along with other 99 students. SPEED, a non profit students' organisation selects 100 engineering students on the basis of their leadership qualities, activities and their interests in affecting change in the way engineering education is delivered.
It also strives to leverage engineering education to change the world.
Domadiya has founded a club in his university called the 'Invincible Leaders League' which arranges activities related to leadership development among engineering students. He has also co founded a national level organisation for engineering education development called 'Strive' which covers 20 engineering colleges across the country since its inception three months back.
Talking about the motivation for the clubs and organisations that he founded Domadiya said, "The objective behind the 'Invincible Leaders League' was to facilitate learning of leadership and create leaders while 'Strive' was intended to impact the engineering education system in the country towards producing more global leaders and professionals."
He said, "Engineering students need to participate more in other walks of life too and identify problems and bring a change towards a better world."
"I have also been actively participating in the 'Yuva Unstoppable' which has been very motivating experience for me" he said.
Note: (SPEED was founded by student participants of the 1st Global Student Forum (GSF) in October 2006 during the 5th Global Colloquium on Engineering Education (GCEE), organised by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The following years, SPEED co-organised the 2nd and the 3rd GSF with ASEE in Istanbul, Turkey and Cape Town, South Africa, and in cooperation with IFEES the 4th GSF in Bhubaneswar, India. SPEED hopes to expand the Global Student Forum initiative significantly in the coming years through global cooperation and feedback from students and through other activities to further enrich engineering education curricula worldwide.)
